RemovAL will be a part of H2020 Innovation Forum 2021 that is taking place on November 30 2021, in Brussels, and virtually for those who wish to attend remotely. H2020 Innovation Forum is an on-going clustering initiative, bringing together H2020 projects with policy makers, end-users, industry representatives, investors, start-ups and SMEs. Boosting the use of bauxite residue in cement

“Boosting the use of bauxite residue (red mud) in cement – Production of an Fe-rich calciumsulfoaluminate-ferrite clinker and characterization of the hydration” has been published on July 21. Internal Life Cycle Assessment Workshop

On 17th of June, European Aluminium organised the Internal Life Cycle Assessment Workshop as an online event. This Workshop focused on presenting the sustainability evaluation of the RemovAL processing routes from a life cycle and circular economy perspective. The main objective was to get partners’ feedback and recommendations, especially from industrial ones. More than 30 representatives from the RemovAL partners as well as invited alumina industries participated. Two main processing routes were presented, i.e. the production of pig-iron and the development of construction materials (de-alkalization, soil stabilization and high-performance binders). RemovAL contributed to Raw Materials Information System (RMIS) technical workshop

The Technical Workshop Channelling knowledge from European projects into the Raw Materials Information System (RMIS) was held virtually on December 3rd, 2020. The workshop was co-organized by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME). The workshop aimed to increase the awareness of EU raw materials project outputs, and how these can support the RMIS’ development needs and priorities. KU Leuven’s plans for the RemovAL demo house

As part of  RemovAl, work is scheduled to erect a house that will be made entirely out of materials from bauxite residue. The demo house of 25 m2 will be builtin the housing settlement next to the AoG alumina plant, in the ‘Aspra Spitia’ area of Greece, which means ‘white houses’ in Greek. “So we might end-up building a house with green materials made from red mud in the Casablanca of Greece (laughs)“, says Professor Pontikes, our partner in KU Luven.
