On 17th of June, European Aluminium organised the Internal Life Cycle Assessment Workshop as an online event. This Workshop focused on presenting the sustainability evaluation of the RemovAL processing routes from a life cycle and circular economy perspective. The main objective was to get partners’ feedback and recommendations, especially from industrial ones. More than 30 representatives from the RemovAL partners as well as invited alumina industries participated. Two main processing routes were presented, i.e. the production of pig-iron and the development of construction materials (de-alkalization, soil stabilization and high-performance binders). The environmental benefits of these processing routes were highlighted in comparison to conventional BR management practices. The opportunities and challenges of these RemovAL processing routes, and the associated recommendations were discussed by participants. Further customisation of such LCA results and recommendations to the 3 alumina producers involved in the RemovAL project will be organised in the last part of the project.
