On October ’22, during the Proceedings of 40th International ICSOBA Conference has been published the paper “Optimizing the Potential of Bauxite Residue Slag in Blended Cement” by Michiel Giels; Tobias Hertel; Marcus Sommerfeld; Yiannis Pontikes. The paper speaks about the potential of bauxite in construction. However, BR from the Bayer process lacks the desired reactivity for use in cement applications. To address this, BR is commonly heat treated through calcination or smelting. Smelting offers the advantage of metal recovery and the use of the slag as a cementitious material. This study compared the potential of the smelted slag with blast furnace slag (BFS), a valuable cementitious material.
